Club Xes, 195 Carlisle Street, Sheffield, S4 7LJ
Sheffield's longest running gay venue situated five minutes from the city centre and easily accessible by taxi. Open Thursday to Sunday with a late license until 6am on Friday and Saturday. This place is the destination venue for a mainly young crowd who want to head somewhere after a night on the town. Appearances may be deceptive as Club Xes is situated in a big old pub but inside it tells a very different story.

This is the place where I go after working at Dempsey's. Thank goodness for late. I like Club Xes because it attracts a wild young crowd who just want to party until it's time to go home and watch The Golden Girls on Living TV. The place always had a reputation for thumping good trance music but things have become a bit more eclectic these days. There's nothing better than crawling outside into the beer garden to sit amongst (as against in) all those plants!

There are many people who predict the end of Club Xes. With the blossoming of the gay scene in the city centre it has been left to Club Xes to offer something different out in the industrial heartland. The glory days may be in the past but this is because the city now offers more choice for Sheffield's clubbers. However, the future is bright as Club Xes continues to attract the crowds at weekends.
In recent years the venue has reinvented itself by reducing the number of nights open and putting late night clubbing firmly into the minds of Sheffield's young gay clubbers. Now other venues follow as the Friday and Saturday all-niters show that there is a wild streak in the minds of the city's youth. For this is what Club Xes now attracts as it moves away from trying to please all age groups.

Whilst other gay venues come and go, Club Xes just keeps on going. The management team have been around for years choosing not to get caught up in the politics that destroyed the Sheffield scene in the nineties. |
This approach has paid off as it remains at the core of the community Critics say the venue needs to be more adventurous but it has moved with the times by constantly upgrading facilities to become a clean, safe place to go clubbing until the early hours.

For those of you who can't wait for the weekend. This is Thursday at Club Xes. The venue opens at 10pm and go through until 4am - later than any other venue on the Sheffield gay scene. The good news is that it is free entry. Once inside the night is yours and it gets even better!
