The Sheffield Gay Diary - What's Happening and When?
| THURSDAY 20th NOVEMBER 2008 |
 |
If the boys turn out to be anything like the one featured in the flyer then we'll certainly be queuing up for a bit of naughty boy flesh! DJ John Dixon settles into his new home at Club Sanctuary, who are really starting to throw some exciting things our way!. Sheffield's very own camptastic DJ plays some upbeat funky sexy house at this seductively titled night. Sin kicks off from 6pm going through until 3am, so start making your excuses for skipping work the next day! This is eagerly being talked about by those gorgeous socialites who like nothing better than a gay venue packed with bright young things. Combined with Club Sanctuary's Pink Pound night with drinks promos from just a quid this turns out to be a cheap but fabulously evocative event. What we want to know is? Who will be taking the DJ home with them?

FRIDAY 21st NOVEMBER 2008
|
| CLIMAX @ FUSION & FOUNDRY |
 |
They were turning people away at the doors for October's Halloween themed party, although we did find it a bit strange to celebrate all things spooky two weeks before the rest of the world! The November Climax is now confirmed with no themed event for us to dress up to this time. Nevertheless the gay youth of Sheffield will make this the big monthly event with plenty of showmanship and campery throughout the night. Climax always offers plenty for the wild and outrageous, and with two rooms of music, as well as copious amounts of booze, it promises to be the big blowout before we think about Christmas. As always advance tickets will be available from the Sheffield University Box Office and Dempsey's Bar and Club. Keep an eye out for details on Glitterball coming soon!

| CLIMAX AFTER-PARTY @ LION'S LAIR |
 |
Lion's Lair continues its popular Climax after-parties with November's fully-charged event promising to be the best yet! Top DJs on the decks for the three hour gathering of Sheffield's nocturnal gay scene. Rumour has it that other venues are a bit miffed with these late night events which goes to show that Lions Lair are onto a good thing. Snazzy lights and smoke effects add to the atmosphere with possibly the scene's best dance set. There's no need for food on the way from Climax as they'll be knocking out free chip butties for the hungry! Don't forget that Lions Lair is also open up to midnight for pre-Climax crowds and those wanting a student-free night. Our pick of the after-parties as you won't go far wrong!

Lions Lair lines up Ibiza DJ Tyronnster (aka Paul Tyronney) for this week's after party. Fans of real house music and electro can join him from 3am for three hours of energetic and pounding music. It's understood that the DJ approached them after accepting another date in the city and is keen to experience the success of the recent introduction of the after parties. His latest live mix is from Kanya in Ibiza and he's expected to replicate some of this set at this very much sought after event. Tyronnster now includes a wide range of dance music genres in his routine including Electro/Funky House, Hard Dance, Scouse House/Bounce, Techno and Gabba.

| SATURDAY 29th NOVEMBER 2008 |
| AFFINITY'S 1st BIRTHDAY WITH ROWETTA |
| Affinity, 29-31 Campo Lane, Sheffield, S1 2EG |
 |
Is it really only one year since Affinity opened? It seems like its been open for absolutely ages. Nevertheless Affinity celebrates its first birthday with a live appearance from Manchester singer Rowetta. She shot to fame in 2004 with ITV's X-Factor and promptly captured the hearts of millions. Her enormous voice set her apart from the other 50,000 entrants and established her as Simon Cowell's favourite. The last woman standing. Congratulations to the venue for establishing itself on the Sheffield gay scene and appears to have proved the doubters wrong with a loyal and colourful set of customers. Entry to Affinity will be free with drinks offers between 5pm and 9pm.

| BEN SIMMONS @ CLUB SANCTUARY |
 |
Our favourite DJ Ben Simmons plays a set at Club Sanctuary. The ever-so-cute Nightingale resident hotfoots it to Sheffield for a night of electro and progressive house. He's a gay god on the top floor of Birmingham's Nightingale where he can normally be heard flirting with House of Music (HOM). Ben's played some of the best clubs including Sugar in Wolverhampton, Heaven in Gran Canaria and the Pool Party at Club Tucanas. Look out for a return date to Club Sanctuary on 6th December.

| WORLD AIDS DAY @ CLUB SANCTUARY |
 |
More people than ever before are living with HIV in the UK and new infections continue. HIV is a serious long-term condition and people living with HIV often face discrimination. Whatever your HIV status, there is a role you can play in ending HIV prejudice and stopping the spread of HIV. The UK theme for World AIDS Day 2008, "Respect & Protect", is inspired by the UNAIDS and World AIDS Campaign ongoing international theme, 'Leadership'. The international theme is developed as an overall theme which each country is encouraged to adapt to suit more specific issues around the epidemic in their region. Club Sanctuary plays its part in the proceedings with this one-off event featuring new resident DJ and long-standing Sleazesister, Pete Martine. Joining him will be singer Patsy Griffith. No door charge with proceeds going to the charity.

| SATURDAY 6th DECEMBER 2008 |
| BEN SIMMONS @ CLUB SANCTUARY |
 |
DJ Ben Simmons returns to Club Sanctuary for another offering of hot house and electro anthems. Simmons shows us why he's a bit of a boy legend on the Birmingham gay scene with this prescribed amount of camp chaos and depravity. The Nightingale resident adds another notch to Club Sanctuary's growing reputation for bringing top DJ talent (or totty) to the Sheffield scene. It's the second appearance for Solihull's finest and the boys are all getting a bit excited about this one! Make a big night of it as the doors won't be bolted shut until 6.30am.

SATURDAY 20th DECEMBER 2008

The secret's out and now we know when Climax's annual Glitterball event is set to put Christmas gayness into our lives. Yorkshire's top LGBT event reaches a crescendo with a night of festivities at Sheffield University's Fusion & Foundry. This Climax event always has that something always has that something extra to titilate the gay youth of Sheffield. Details are still under wraps, but expect more info after November's Climax gathering. It all kicks off from 10.30pm coming to a thudding halt at 3.30am. It's back home for the students after this one, so expect a big blowout before having to explain what they've done with all their money these past few months! advance tickets will be on sale from Sheffield University Students' Union and Dempsey's Bar and Club. Check back for more information.

| DJ NICK DAVY @ LIONS LAIR |
 |
Lions Lair might have been rocked by the departure of DJ John Dixon but they respond in typical gutsy style. Tonight they reveal Nick Davy for this one-off after-party special between 3am and 6am. With plenty of mileage under his belt Davy's big break came in 2007 by winning DJ Mag's competition to win a set at Space in Ibiza.
"Amongst tons of brilliant mixes, Nick Davy's selection shone through like a diamond in the rough. With a perfectly pitched blend of upbeat grooves, tinged with techno, Nick's track selection was peerless" - DJ Mag
Now he can boast being a regular on the Ibiza scene.
|
|
His meteoric rise means he can boast playing alongside the likes of Sasha, Darren Emerson, Groove Armada, Eddie Halliwell, Fergie and Adam Freeland. Dance fans may also know Davy as the turntablist and keyboard player for Psylence with whom he spent 3 years. Now regulars at Lions Lair have the chance to see DJ Nick Davy in action for themselves.
