Club Sanctuary, The Safe Haven, 4 St James Street, Sheffield, S1 2EW

CLUB SANCTUARY

A brand new gay clubbing experience right in the heart of Sheffield city centre. Located in the Cathedral Quarter, Club  Sanctuary might just be the venue to kick start the dreams of a Gay Quarter. It is situated close to Affinity and is just minutes away from Lion's Lair. It's position is also close to West Street and the acclaimed Leopold Square making it an ideal candidate for customers wanting something more special than they've previously been used to. Club Sanctuary opened on 31st October 2008.

JOHN-PAUL: REVIEW

This is so exciting because Club Sanctuary looks to be a cut above what we've been used to? The venue is quite a classy old building and has been used extensively as a bar and restaurant over the years. This might explain the fact that it looks a bit tired in places. However, don't be put off because a lot of money has been invested already and rumour suggests that there are big plans for this place. The staff are friendly and you'll recognise a lot of them. As for one of the managers... well, she's top drawer material! Get behind Club Sanctuary because you won't be disappointed.

SANCTUARY DETAILS

Club Sanctuary might be new to Sheffield but the owner has considerable experience at running venues in the city. Remember Bar Miles and the Matilda Tavern? These venues seem an eternity ago, but now he's back to launch a brand new gay experience. The building is old and classy which gives Club Sanctuary an immediate advantage. There is also the potential is to expand to three floors.

It seems that Club Sanctuary wants to offer something different. Live music is on the agenda which is definitely missing from the current scene. Acts like Angie Brown, K-Klass and the Freemasons don't come cheap so the venue is gambling on launching with a bang! The potential is for Club Sanctuary to become a regional favourite although we hear there are plans to launch sister venues in Chesterfield and Barnsley in the future. Rumour has it that more money is to be invested in the venue soon which will put it a class above everyone else. The good news is the venue is open all day allowing the gay scene to shop and chill without having to go too far.

Club Sanctuary offers a classy Sunday lunch which is rather fitting considering the venue's previous existence as a bar and restaurant. All students get a 10% discount on food and drink with a valid NUS Card and Employer ID Cards. Membership cards and VIP Cards are available for customers to pick up from the bar or by sending an email to the venue. For a chance to be on the weekend guest list email the venue direct. The venue will also be providing Wi-Fi access and Internet Cafe facilities soon. Look out for the new website launching in November.
